Injury or disease to the eye can cause astigmatism. This type of astigmatism is mostly severe and cannot be corrected with normal lenses or eye glasses. Certain type of eye surgeries can also cause severe astigmatism. Refractive surgery and rigid contact lenses or Toric lenses are the treatment options.
