Eye glasses or lenses are the most common form of treatment and is used to treat both corneal and lenticular astigmatism. Rigid contact lenses are used to rectify the curvature defects. In the beginning, the rigid contact lens is worn for an extended period in a day. As the irregularity in shape decreases, the frequency and time of the wearing of the lens is decreased.
Earlier only rigid contact lenses were used to cure astigmatism. Today, Toric lenses, which are soft contact lenses, are widely used. These types of lenses have special correction built into them. But for severe astigmatism rigid contact lenses are the best.
Side effects of the use of contact lenses include corneal abrasion. |
