Cornea and the lens in the eye are used to focus images. Normally, the cornea has smooth curvature and refracts the light to make an image on the retina, which is then transmitted to the brain. When there is an error in the cornea, like having uneven surface, the light rays are not refracted properly and causes corneal astigmatism.
This is the most common type of astigmatism and can be treated effectively with eyeglasses or lenses. LASIK surgery is another option. |
