Colored Contacts - Advantages and Disadvantages

Today the enormous variety of colored contacts available is fast growing every day. The color of your eyes is determined by the pigment in your iris, which is a muscle surrounding the pupil. The iris muscle opens and closes the pupil in reaction to how much light is hitting the eyes. As yet, science hasn't fitted as with any fantastical surgery that can change eye color and people displeased with their natural eye color will have to content themselves with color contacts. There is a whole variety of colored contacts that are fun and there are brands that correct astigmatism or any other special condition. They are available without visual correction- merely for show- and these are called “ plano form ” and also with any regular prescription or special prescription such as astigmatism or presbyopia .

Though optical manufacturers do produce different sizes intended to target a big portion of the population, the eye is never static; the pupil grows larger when the environment doesn't let in enough light and the eye capitalizes on every light source available. When the eyes are exposed to too much light, the pupil diminishes in size. This constantly changing pupil can never be fully fitted when the contact is static and unmoving. In situations where there is very little light, such as on a very dark night, the pupil will enlarge to it fullest proportions and will be larger than the circumference of the lens. In these instances, your vision may be slightly affected. They are also prone to sliding about the eye . Most colored lenses- unless custom made personally for you- will have the tendency to rotate and slip whenever you blink or swivel your gaze too quickly. They aren't very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Another problem connected with colored contact lenses has nothing to do with the lenses themselves, but with people's attitude to wearing them. Since many people are now buying non-prescription colored contacts merely for recreational use, they also feel free to exchange them or to pass them on. This is never a good idea, with any contact lens, as they are medical devices and are fitted to the specifications of each individual's eyes and they always pick up some measure of bacteria and protein deposits; making them unhealthy for anyone but yourself to use. Even with proper cleaning, maintenance and strong disinfectants, swapping contacts is not a good idea and will lead to eye infections that could be harmful in the long run.
