Blepharitis is mainly caused by seborrheic dermatitis and by bacterial infection caused by staphylococcus bacteria. The bacteria normally do not cause harm and is present in the human skin. But due to the excessive secretion of meibomian glands, the lifecycle of bacteria is altered and leads to its overgrowth.
Other potential causes include long term e xposure to smoke, smog, chemical fumes and other irritants . Certain drug allergies can cause acute blepharitis. In rare cases, certain type of allergies and lice infestation also leads to blepharitis. |
