  Symptoms of Amblyopia

Amblyopia generally develops before the age of six. A clear sign of amblyopia is when a child closes one eye to see and read. Squint, eye strain, and headaches are the other main symptoms. Eyes that turn in or out and tilting the head or keeping the head in awkward positions to look at an object are indications of lazy eye.

If there is a family history of serious eye disease, childhood cataract or strabismus, it is wise to get children in such families to be examined by an ophthalmologist. Children with ophthalmic problems have a high chance of amblyopia than normal healthy children.
